Alberni Valley United Church Custodian Position
We are hiring a custodian. At present the position will be a minimum of 10 hours per week but may increase in the future.
We are considering the hours to be 2 hours per day - 5 days per week. This is subject to change and revision.
Current remuneration $ 16.00 - $ 16.75 per hour
The custodian reports to the Minister and to the Chair of the Property and Maintenance Team.
The custodian is responsible for the cleanliness of the church building.
Qualifications – must supply current criminal record check.

Custodial Position Description Duties
- Weekly –
Sweep all floors – Kitchen, gym, hallway, bathrooms, childrens play area in music room, narthex
Wet mop all floors – kitchen, gym, hallway and bathrooms
Dust all surfaces as required
Vacuum lounge, Ellen’s carpet, Minnie’s office, entry way, sanctuary and narthex carpet
Clean and stock bathrooms.
Empty all garbage
Generally keep an eye out for what needs doing – eg – wipe spills on kitchen cupboards, counters
Wipe down interior windows/doors and glass table tops in lounge as needed
Clean stoves as required
- Monthly –
Cobweb patrol with shop vac – more often in warmer weather
Sweep or vacuum walkway carpet
Sweep/vacuum children’s room
Keep janitorial and washroom supplies stocked. Prepare supply order and submit to office.
Fragrance free soaps and cleaning supplies only
Vacuum loft stairs and carpet.
As required –
Inform Property and Maintenance of lights to be changed. Check EXIT lights
Extra duties as assigned
During COVID 19 - Sanitizing requirements
Sanitize all shared surfaces in Sanctuary (preferably Tuesday at present) - light switches, door handles, chairs, keyboards and other frequently touched items/places
Sanitize all touch surfaces throughout the building – light switches, phones, door knobs
Check and refill sanitizing dispensers weekly
Clean and sanitize bathrooms daily
Ensure a 6 month supply of cleaning products is on hand
